In-Home Family Session in Provo, Utah | The Pickup Family

This in-home family session in Provo, Utah with the Pickup family was such a joy to photograph. From the moment I walked in, I could tell this family was deeply connected and so comfortable together. Meredith and Andrew, the parents, brought the calmest, most grounded energy to the session—and that calm carried through the entire shoot, even with five very rambunctious kids running around.

Family photo sessions can sometimes feel stressful for parents, but Meredith and Andrew were truly calm as cucumbers. They leaned into the experience, trusted the process, and let their kids be kids. That always results in the most genuine photos.

Photographing a Family in Their Newly Built Home

One of the most special parts of this session was photographing the family in their newly built home. They recently completed the build and were excited to take photos in a space they poured so much time, thought, and energy into designing. You could feel the pride and love they have for their home, and that made the session feel extra meaningful.

We photographed throughout the living room, family room, kitchen, and even the front yard, which gave us great variety while still keeping everything relaxed and cohesive. I love the ease that comes with photographing families in their safe space. Kids are more comfortable. Parents can relax. And the photos feel honest and lived-in.

Two Outfit Changes Made Easy

One of the perks of an in-home family session is how easy it is to do outfit changes. The Pickup family took full advantage of that and planned two different looks—one that felt a bit more polished and one that was much more casual.

Because we were at home, the transition between outfits was seamless. No rushing. No stress. Just an easy flow that kept the session moving while giving them a wide variety of images.

Playful Kids and a Very Specific Trend

The kids were an absolute blast. They joked, teased each other, and brought so much personality to every part of the session. One of the funniest details? They were fully obsessed with the “6 7” trend that’s been making the rounds lately.

I didn’t even catch all of it in the moment, but while going through the gallery afterward, I was laughing out loud at how many hidden “6 7” signs they had secretly snuck into the photos. I left a few in the final gallery because honestly—they feel like the perfect snapshot of this phase of life. I hope they become one of those funny details the family looks back on years from now and instantly remembers this season.

Why In-Home Family Sessions Work So Well

This session was the perfect example of why I love in-home family photography. The environment was familiar. The energy was relaxed. The kids felt free to be themselves. And the parents stayed present and calm throughout it all.

These photos don’t just show what the Pickup family looks like. They show who they are right now—and that’s what makes them so special.
